Mature Population

Staying fit is of vital importance for the older population, but this can present a challenge, as exercise can be hard on the joints. Pilates is an ideal workout since it is not high impact and far gentler than most other forms of exercise.  Pilates is also perfect for those who may not have been exercising regularly, as it is possible to slowly ease into a new routine.

Because Pilates focuses on lengthening the muscles, it does not have the same risk of injury as those regimens that build bulk.  It focuses on building strong abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine, which helps with posture and balance.  And because many of the exercises are performed in reclining or sitting positions, Pilates is an ideal form of exercise for the older adult population.  Pilates can also help certain conditions associated with aging such as arthritis and osteoporosis.
